Julia Gjertsen (Norway) and Juha Mäki-Patola (Finland) present their collaborative record ‘Dive’.
Julia and Juha have previously released several solo works and been active on labels such as Hush Hush Records (US) and Moderna Records (CA). In their collaborative work they explore together their sonic vision, with a glimpse of melancholic and emotive piano melodies mixed together with lush and ambient textures.
Juha invited Julia to collaborate when she was traveling by ferry in Northern Norway. During Julia's journey they started to share different musical ideas which led into several compositions. In their collaborative debut, the duo has put together four pieces which are inspired by the nordic climate and the ocean. The title for the piece "Meri'' is a Finnish word for sea. Here they are trying to reflect on what it means to be the sea, how would it feel to be the sea. In the track "Dive" the listeners are invited to explore their own inner lands by slowly diving into meditative piano loops. While the track "When The Birds Start To Leave" is trying to capture a moment when the birds of passage are preparing to leave south and the winter times are near. In the track "Wide" we are introduced to a contemplative piano with some rhythmical and hovering elements. On this record Juha and Julia attempt to reflect about how it feels to observe nature and to be at sea, and how this affects our inner world. Juha and Julia share their thoughts and feelings about that throughout all tracks on the album.
