"From the Deep" is a collection of heartfelt, immersive, instinctive and emotive pieces of music for String Ensemble. Performed by Curve Ensemble and written by composers, Angus MacRae, Jim Perkins, Tony Woollard, Anna De Bruin and Daniel Hewson.
Written in part as absolute music and in part an instinctive and sub conscious response to the world we find ourselves in. These five pieces engage the listener deeply and immerse them in emotionally charged but thoughtfully composed music.
"Hartland" is a reflection on family and childhood and takes its name from the composer's childhood home.
"A Distant Sun" takes a simple melodic phrase and reworks it, changing the harmony and register of the notes to balance a familiar constant with changing surroundings to create a warm and emotionally moving piece.
"On the Green" combines beautiful melody with lush harmonies and constantly changing textures taking the listener on a journey of wonder and surprise.
"Aftermath" is a compelling and emotionally charged piece with heart rending harmonies and dynamics which hold the listener captive.
"New Spring" moves steadily, bathing the listener in rich waves of warm compelling chords with soaring violins floating over the top in a graceful melody evoking birdsong.
